Purelymail Email Hosting

Purelymail is a plain, low-cost email host for people who want mail on their own domains without paying per user. You bring your domains and create the users you need, and Purelymail handles receiving, storing and sending the mail.

The default plan, which Purelymail calls simple pricing, costs $10 a year. There are no hard limits on the number of users, custom domains or storage. If an account uses significantly more than $10 a year in resources, it may need to move to advanced pricing, where you pay for actual resource use. For heavier accounts that can work out cheaper, and the site has a calculator to estimate it.

Mail works with any client. You can fetch mail over IMAP or POP3, send over SMTP, sort mail with routing rules or sieve filters, or use the built in webmail. The service runs on AWS infrastructure and publishes a status page with its historical issues, plus a news page and a mailing list for updates.

Purelymail is open about its weak points. Support is not staffed around the clock, so replies to tickets can take time. Occasionally an obscure mail server may block its outgoing mail, which it says usually clears within a day or two. Its terms do not allow marketing email, mailing lists, domain warm-up services or any unsolicited mail, so it is not a fit for newsletters. Transactional mail to existing customers is generally fine.

You can try it with a trial that gives a limited amount of credit, which the site says lasts around a month with light use. Purelymail was created by Scott Johnson and is now run by Add Rabbit LLC in Erie, Pennsylvania.
