mailbox.org Email and Office

mailbox.org is a German email provider that bundles mail with calendar, contacts, cloud storage, online office documents and video meetings. Its servers sit in redundant data centres in Berlin, so data stays under German data protection law and the GDPR. The service carries no advertising.

There are three private plans. Light costs €1 a month, is only available with annual payment, and gives 2 GB of mail storage, three @mailbox.org aliases, calendar, address book and limited support. Standard costs €4 a month, or €3 a month when paid yearly, and adds 20 GB of mail, 10 GB of drive storage, 25 @mailbox.org aliases, custom domain names with 50 aliases, office and Meet. Premium costs €12 a month, or €9 a month when paid yearly, with 50 GB of mail, 100 GB of drive and 250 aliases for custom domains. Drive storage can be expanded on the paid plans.

Business customers pay per user, net of VAT, at the same €1, €4 and €12 levels, plus a service package. Silver is €25 a month for up to 50 mailboxes with email ticket support on weekdays. Gold is €75 a month for up to 250 mailboxes and adds a personal contact for onboarding and support. Platinum is €250 a month for unlimited mailboxes, with phone support and a 24/7 emergency hotline for the admin team. Each package includes an admin console and groupware groups.

The suite is built around open standards. Mail works over IMAP, POP3 and webmail, and calendars and contacts sync with phones and desktop apps. Encryption with PGP is part of the offering, which matters to people who choose the service for privacy rather than price.

The Standard and Premium plans, and business accounts, can be tried free for 30 days before you commit, which makes it easy to test custom domain setup and client sync.
