Overview
About listmonk Self-Hosted Newsletter Manager
listmonk is a free, open-source newsletter and mailing list manager that you run on your own server. It ships as a single binary backed by PostgreSQL, so it is light to install and fast with large lists. It is licensed under the AGPL-3.0, and a 7.0.0 beta was released in October 2026.
Because it is self-hosted, you pay only for your server and your email sending. listmonk connects to one or more SMTP servers, including services such as Amazon SES, and can spread sending across several queues with rate limits and sliding windows. This makes it a cost-effective way to send to large lists.
Subscribers are managed in lists with custom attributes stored as JSON. You can segment them with SQL expressions, which is powerful for those comfortable with queries. Imports handle large CSV files, and public subscription forms and preference pages are built in, with double opt-in.
Campaigns use templates with Go templating and expressions, so content can be personalised per subscriber. The editor supports rich text, raw HTML, Markdown and plain text, and there is a media manager for images. Transactional email can be sent through an API.
Analytics show views, clicks, bounces and link performance, and bounce processing can work with mailbox scanning or webhooks from common providers. User roles and permissions control access for teams.
There is no hosted service or paid support from the project. Documentation is on the site and help is through GitHub. listmonk suits technical teams who want full control of their lists and low running costs.
