Overview
About Buttondown Newsletter Platform
Buttondown is a small, independent newsletter platform. It is fully remote with no fixed offices, and says it wants Buttondown to be its life's work. It is built for writers, creators and developers who want a dependable tool for sending a newsletter without the weight of a full marketing suite.
Writing happens in a Markdown or rich text editor. You can send from a custom domain, and every newsletter gets hosted archives. Buttondown connects to tools such as Discord, Memberful and YouTube, lets you post by sending an email, and can cross-post from other platforms so you write once and publish everywhere. It uses Buttondown for its own mailing lists and says its deliverability is among the highest in the industry.
Pricing is based mainly on active subscribers. It costs nothing for the first 100 subscribers, and the price rises with list size from there. Features are sold as monthly add-ons, so you pay only for what you use. Tagging and segmentation, paid subscriptions, comments and surveys, analytics, RSS-to-email and email attachments each cost $9 a month. Sponsorships, archives on a custom domain, multiple newsletters and automations each cost $29 a month. Whitelabeling and teams each cost $79 a month. Buttondown does not take fees from your paid subscribers, and teams have no per-seat charge.
Developers get a feature-complete API for building their own tools on top of the service. Buttondown publishes its documentation and a status page, and links to its open source work from the site.
Moving in is handled for you. Buttondown offers a one-click concierge migration for lists of any size and says it will complete it within one business day. If you later want to leave, it says it will make that easy too. Support is by email through a contact form.
