Njalla Private Domain Registration

Njalla describes itself as a privacy as a service provider for domains, VPNs and virtual servers, and it has operated for more than 15 years. Its domain service is built for people who do not want their identity tied to a domain in public records, such as journalists, activists and anyone who simply values privacy.

Instead of the usual WHOIS privacy proxy, Njalla registers the domain on your behalf, so your details do not appear on the domain record while you keep the use of it. It says the most interesting people using its services are the ones it has to go to court to protect, and it keeps a blog and guidance pages explaining how its approach works.

Pricing has no packages. Every registration includes anycast DNS, domain privacy, support and email forwarding. Prices depend on the extension. Common ones such as .com, .net, .org and .eu cost €15 a year. A larger group that includes .app, .dev, .me, .info, .cloud and .blog costs €30 a year. Further tiers cost €45, €60 and €75 a year, covering extensions such as .io and .co at €45 and .ai at €75.

Njalla also sells a VPN using WireGuard and OpenVPN, and virtual servers from €15 a month on a distributed, redundant storage backend, aimed at self-hosted projects such as Mastodon, Matrix or Nextcloud. Physical servers are available on request.

Payment can be made in several cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Litecoin, Monero and Ethereum, as well as PayPal. The site is also reachable over a Tor onion address. Support and guidance pages explain how its domain model works, and it is worth reading those before moving an important domain.
